About Me
My name is Christina Free and I was born in Calgary, Alberta. I love music! I started to learn to play the piano at age 4, and sang in the Calgary Girls Choir since age 5. But that wasn't enough for me - the melodious sounds of the violin are what really stole my heart and I convinced my parents buy me my first little violin. I have been playing the violin for over 17 years. Most of my musical studies were undertaken at the Academy at Mount Royal University - a program for young, gifted musicians. There I undertook intensive musical training in violin performance, chamber music, theory and orchestral music and even had the opportunity to play for world renowned violinists including Itzhak Perlman. I have played in the Calgary Youth Orchestra, a number of various Chamber Groups, with the Mount Allison University Chamber Orchestra and as a soloist at many events and fundraisers in Calgary. In addition to playing music for weddings and funerals, I have also performed the violin for the Calgary Chinese Business and Professional Association, Centre Street Church, Westside Calgary Chinese Alliance Church, MOSAIC, CAUSE Canada and the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre.
I also love singing. In addition to singing with the Calgary Girls Choir for a number of years, I have had professional vocal training for over 8 years and have competed in many competitions such as the Kiwanis Music Festival and the Calgary Contemporary Showcase Festival, winning many prizes and awards. I have performed at the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre, fundraisers for CAUSE Canada and VITAL, for Alberta Children's Services, the United Calgary Chinese Association, Westside Calgary Chinese Alliance Church, and at the Jubilee Auditorium.
